Ok so I was doing a bit more searching and reading today and it looks like the locking problem could be down to water ingress causing the fault of the door control module (which is part of the window motor as far as I can gather) or it could be broken wires in the door loom.
Battery (Exide 3 yr warranty)cost me 62 quid including VAT from Eurcarparts,not a bad price I thought. You did not get the Brisky discount then (for eurocarparts online, you can still pick up in store ) They are £54.94 before discount and £44.95 after , I got a bosch one, S4 £54.85 , similar from Halfords over a 100.
When it's disconnected, the red light flashes happily when the car is locked. It doesn't work at all when the solenoid is plugged back in. When the unit is connected, the fob will lock the remaining 3 doors, but need to use the key to lock drivers door. With unit disconnected, fob will lock other 3 doors fine.

The central locking on my car (Skoda Octavia) packed up today I thought at first it was the battery in the key fob but tried the other still not opening the car. The locks can be operated just using the key(s) does anyone know how to get it working from the key fob? Sam.
No start, no dash lights. Battery good, radio & lights work. Without warning, the vehicle will not start. The battery is good, the lights and radio work as expected, the central locking works.
